During the opening weekend of college football, 336 college football coaching staffs from all four NCAA divisions wore the AFCA patch on their shirts to help promote the association. The AFCA promoted the weekend with the hashtag #AFCAPatch, and received a lot of social media attention with the help of the schools participating.
The AFCA patch also received a lot of television exposure, with the help of a number of FBS programs appearing on national broadcasts. Some of the featured games where the AFCA patch was worn included No. 7 Washington at Rutgers (Fox Sports 1), Utah State at No. 10 Wisconsin (ESPN), Kent State at No. 5 Clemson (ESPN), Akron at No. 6 Penn State (ABC), No. 9 Michigan vs. No. 16 Florida (ABC), UTEP at No. 8 Oklahoma (Fox), No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 3 Florida State (ABC), No. 20 West Virginia vs. No. 22 Virginia Tech (ABC) and No. 24 Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech (ESPN). The AFCA will send out the AFCA patch again next year. If schools would like to participate in 2018, please call the AFCA office at 254-754-9900 or email email@example.com.
